Why is a horses trot stride called 3 beat?

Interested to know the answer. I suspect it’s because front and diagonal hind touch the ground at the same time?

Answer ( 1 )

  1. A horse trot stride is called 2 beat because every time they take a step, one foot always lands on the ground first.

This also means that one of their front toes will touch the ground at the same time as its hind foot touches
